    • Characteristics:  Psyllium ( Indian plantain - lat. Plantago ovata ) is found mainly in India and Asia. It is ground plantain seed husks into a very fine powder without its core.
The raw material treated in this way, commercially called just psyllium, can be classified as a fiber with a significant ability to form a gel in the water environment. After mixing with water, it gradually swells steadily. It can increase its volume twenty to forty times and thus create a soft gel, which continues its absorption capacity even further in the digestive system. This increases the volume of the stool, cleans the microvilli of the intestinal walls from persistent deposits, supports the peristalsis of the intestines, thus helping the movement of the intestinal contents. Toxic substances are excreted, thus preventing them from remaining in the intestines for too long and the possibility of their penetration into the bloodstream. Finely ground Psyllium seed husk contains 35 percent soluble and 65 percent insoluble polysaccharides (cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin).

Psyllium and its health effects on the organism:

      • a natural source of both soluble and insoluble fiber
      • supports the digestion of food and the movement (peristalsis) of the intestines
      • regulates and regulates emptying
      • relieves constipation or diarrhea, bloating and gas
      • is the prevention of colon cancer
      • cleans the digestive tract from the settled remains of inappropriate food - for example, starches that can ferment there
      • helps keep the body in metabolic balance
      • reduces the adverse effects of diabetes
      • helps reduce obesity in neutered and indoor dogs

    Possibilities of use and dosage:

Psyllium is a raw material that does not cause any type of allergy, it is also suitable for very sensitive or sick dogs. The psyllium we offer is very finely ground and thus has a very high absorption capacity. It's a good idea to test this property beforehand to get an idea of how even a small amount can thicken a liquid. Psyllium is used as a nutritional supplement when feeding meat and pellets. Due to its ability to bind a large amount of water (up to fifty times its weight), it must always be soaked in a sufficient amount of liquid before giving it to the dog - do not give it in a dry state on food without sufficient water content!

Due to its high absorption properties, Psyllium can also be a support when it is necessary to hydrate the dog sufficiently - by creating an aqueous gel and adding it to the food. In the same way, the volume of food can be increased in voracious dogs or dogs prone to obesity. By adding a thicker gel, the portion of feed increases, but no calories are added - a suitable supplement even for obese castrates. It is ideal to thicken e.g. vegetable or meat broth in this way to increase the taste of the gel.

Approximate dosage for dogs according to their weight:

    up to 10 kg: 0.7 - 1.5 g

    10 - 30 kg:   1.5 - 3 g

    30 - 70 kg: 3 - 6 g

    over 70 kg:  do not exceed a dose of 8 g / 1 dose.

One slightly heaped teaspoon corresponds to approx. 1 g. Mix psyllium with water in a ratio of 1:10 and let it swell for approx. 5 minutes. If the solution becomes too thick for your needs, dilute it with water if necessary. Or sprinkle wet food or canned food. Give 1 - 2 times a day - according to the dog's needs. When applying Psillia in a dry state to feed, the fiber must be washed down well with water.

Psyllium must be taken at least 1 hour apart from other medications and dietary supplements. Otherwise, the active substance will bind to itself and it will come out with it - it will not be used.

Even high doses of Psyllium are not toxic to the body. They must always be sufficiently soaked in water. Slightly moist psyllium, even in powder form, creates a persistent, slimy layer on the surface (skin, objects), which can be washed off with water.
    • Storage and consumption: Store in a well-closed, airtight PVC container, in a dry place at a temperature of up to approx. 25 °C, without sunlight and above all sudden changes in temperature - water can condense on the walls of the PVC container and subsequently the contents could deteriorate or even mold .
